Platyhelminthes
M. SolifugusIce Worm
Kingdom: Animalia Phylum: Annelida
Order: Haplotaxida Family: Enchytraeidae
Genus: Mesenchytraeus Species: Solifugus
Ice worms populate coastal glaciers in North America from Alaska to northern Washington State. They are the only known worm to spend their entire life in temperatures near 0 °C. Even if other places are equally cold, ice worms never venture onto any other terrain. They eat the abundant snow algae and pollen carried by the wind. Ice worms are extremophiles, animals that thrive in conditions that most creatures would not be able to survive, and live in glacial ice.

Mollusca
M. MercenariaHard Clam
Phylum: Mollusca Class: Bivalvia
Order: Veneroida Family: Veneridae
Genus: Mercenaria Species: Mercenaria
Bivalve (clam) shells found in Summer 2010 were the first body fossils found in the Cantwell Formation. Clams could live in freshwater or ocean water and lived on the surface or burrowed into the soft, muddy bottom. Clams are no longer found in Denali, but fossils suggest they lived there in the past.
